spotly
Here's some interesting rock in the Methow Valley south of Twisp. Looks like it's on private property though. Anyone found similar rock near there that's on public property?
drater
LOL, that's right upstream from the popular put in on the Methow kayak trips. I tried asking the landowner permission but they were obviously used to having hasslers with boaters disrespecting their property and gave me an emphatic NO! There's more of that water polished methow granite down on the river, boat or swim access only. The best bit is in the "Black Canyon", the best rapid on the river. Probably tall enough to warrant a rope, we just boldered up high as we felt comfortable and jumped. The Black Canyon is class IV so be prepared for some rough water (maybe not this time of year tho) if you try and get there.
spotly
I figured someone here had asked. They weren't home last time I went through. Too bad about access - looks like fun. I'll get to that class IV area as soon as I can figure out the class II stuff Thanks for the reply.
drater
It's a short section of class IV and pretty tame for the grade, except in high water/flood stage at which point it's IV+ with a massive keeper hole. Later in the summer it's full of eddies and has a big beach on the side away from the rocks, worth a float for sure. At that point it's swimmable and has some good deep water soloing/highballing with a wet landing.
