johndavidjr Posted September 11, 2006 Share Posted September 11, 2006 I've used a Sil Shelter for at least 15 nights in forest and am getting to really like it when lower roof is guyed to tree. A really vintage design. Properly set up I'd say it can be nearly as solid as betamids, though much smaller. Has anyone used this type of tent in mosquito-filled alpine basin or similar and able to tell about the experience? layton Posted September 12, 2006 Share Posted September 12, 2006 Yes. Used on in the winds in bug season and one in a storm with nothing to absorb the river headed towards me. In either situation, it sucks, but since it weighs almost nothing, it beats nothing. I've weathered a few nasty storms in one with ground cover that absorbs water and have been fine. When I am using it in the summer, I always take one of these as well: I find that the severed head of an unshaven dork really keeps the mosquitos away.
