taka Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Hello there, I'm a male Japanese climber in my thirties in Japan and just thinking about doing sports-climbing in Smith Rock Oct.15-18. I'm planning to fly to Portland, it's sketchy though as for now. I usually lead sport up to 11a or b, but I think the system is different from that in the U.S. so my skill is skeptical. And I've not do trad climbing, just only sport climbing on bolt-routes. If anyone is interested, send me a PM or post on this thread! I'm looking forward to enjoying climbing with you guys! high_on_rock Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I have gone to Smith numerous times alone, and typically within an hour at the rock I find climbing partners for the day or weekend (groups of women most of the time). If you cannot find a partner here, my advice is to just show up and see how you do. Quote

matt_warfield Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 October is prime season at Smith and while there are far fewer climbers during the week, there will be a lot. Just go hang around the parking area, the camping area, and/or the climbs and ask around. During one of our trips we met a guy from Switzerland who was by himself and adopted him for our whole trip. I lived in Nagoya for three years and an half... (my japanese is not that good, I got the JLPT 4 - yonkyu but I'll be glad if I can practise with you Taka ) I've climbed to Hourai, Toyota shi and Ogawayama... I hope I could see you there.
