Dr_Crash Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Hi, Some friends and I are considering climbing Mt Olympus during Labor Day weekend. We've heard concerns that the bergschrund might be uncrossable at this time of the year. Does anyone here have recent beta? Thanks! drC Quote
Animal Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 We climbed Olympus on August 10th trying the fourth of July direct route. The shrunds definitely kept us from going that direction, but we were made via an alternate path. Generally the crevasses were closed up in Mid August. Several years ago I climbed the mountain in very late September, and we made it by going through crystal pass. I would think that the schrund for the 3rd class approach to the top would be hard to pass, but the direct approach up the 5th class route should go. the 5th class route is described in the new edition to the Olympic Climbers guide. Dr_Crash Posted August 28, 2006 Author Posted August 28, 2006 Thanks. Any rock climbing expected for that other route? I have an arm in a cast... Quote
materp Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Hope you ended up doing Olympus. The Crystal Pass route is in fine condition. THere is one small bridge at the base of the north side of crystal pass, that one should consider walking around, but otherwise....all clear. MErp Quote
