Climb: Mt Persis-

Date of Climb: 6/26/2006

Trip Report:

Walky walky to the toppy. Rough road, almost clear trail, awesome views.

Strange notes - On the forest road drive in, there is a blue tarp in the road. Thoughts of snagging a good tarp are interrupted by a putrid stench, and whoa!, there is a dead black bear on his back on the side of the road. Of course I have to stop and stare, but the car fills with flies and the smell makes me gag...field trip is over. We go summit, feel sorry for ourselves that it's a 90 degree Monday and we have to be outside on top of a mountain. On the way back down, I have a morbid desire to take a pic of the bear. When we get to it, someone has covered that foulest smelling, maggot infested bear back up with the tarp! WTF!

i saw him loping down the road on my way home from work one evening early last week. while driving to work on friday morning, i found him under the same tarp. some gutter ball must have shot him the night before....rigor had set in but the flies hadn't gotten to him yet. i called the game warden from index but he must have been too busy. what a fucking shame.
