syudla Posted June 6, 2001 Posted June 6, 2001 Completed Liberty ridge and Emmons descent on 6/2. The previous postings about route conditions still hold true. Approached the ridge from the WEST side but climbed to ridge top much earlier (lower) due to constant rockfall, enabling us to remain above it for the remainder of the day to Thumb Rock. Still good snow to ~12000 however above that route is turning to mostly alpine ice. We did encounter significant rock fall on 1 section of upper ridge @ about 12000. Direct route on Carbon to WEST side of Lib. probably will not hold and may even be gone by now. We summited in howling wind/white out and locating descent route on Emmons was a bit tricky. Rangers have the route well wanded from 12500'to Shurman. Quote
