We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

route conditions Liberty ridge

Recommended Posts

Completed Liberty ridge and Emmons descent on 6/2. The previous postings about route conditions still hold true. Approached the ridge from the WEST side but climbed to ridge top much earlier (lower) due to constant rockfall, enabling us to remain above it for the remainder of the day to Thumb Rock. Still good snow to ~12000 however above that route is turning to mostly alpine ice. We did encounter significant rock fall on 1 section of upper ridge @ about 12000. Direct route on Carbon to WEST side of Lib. probably will not hold and may even be gone by now. We summited in howling wind/white out and locating descent route on Emmons was a bit tricky. Rangers have the route well wanded from 12500'to Shurman.
