Thinking of giving the White Salmon glacier route a try this weekend.

Can I park overnight in the Mt Baker Ski area parking lot (is there an

"upper" parking lot)? I read some reports which mentioned the gate

being closed by 5:30 pm or so. Will I be better off parking outside

the gate? Any fears/experiences of your car getting broken into in case

I park on the roadside ?

TIA for any info smile.gif.

When we parked in the parking lot of the White Salmon Lodge two years ago (in mid-April), the ski area was operating in "weekend only" mode. So they were indeed locking the gate on Sunday night, and we got our car out just before they locked the gate. But they didn't hassle us for parking there over Saturday night. Others have parked there in spring and haven't run in to this problem, though.

My recommendation is to just park at the pull-out just after you exit the Mount Baker Highway; this spot is outside the gate.

We parked overnight at Heather Meadows (day lodge), which is the "upper" parking lot

(when you drive in). There is no gate on the road here. The approach is probably longer though.

We gained the Shuksan Arm from just outside the ski area boundary. Snow conditions were not bad,

but we got shut out by the weather and bailed. Camped overnight and played around on Sunday

when we had much better weather lower down (contrary to the forecast, but thats nothing

new I suppose frown.gif ).
