David Trippett Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Anyone have any beta on the 1961(I think thats the year) route on the north face of Mt. Baring. Whats the best way to approach the peak this time of year? Hows the rock? Any descent peculiarities? Cheers. Quote
Bronco Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 The best way to approach the North side of the peak this time of year is to drive as close as you can to the trail head and follow the hiking trail to the lake where you'll want to refer to your guide book for the rest of the approach. Snowshoes would be pretty much manditory. Rock is variable. Descent is not straight forward at all. I'd suggest doing a recon of the "walk off" to get an idea of where you're going and current conditions on the mountain. There are several avalanche prone areas you would want to move quickly through on the descent route. I've seen a bit of ice up between the North and South summits so take your ice tools. Quote
