iluka Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 (edited) Anyone hear about these deaths on Aconcagua in the past week? There's mention of one of them in a post (several paragraphs down) at the following link: http://www.cho-oyu.net/ Seems odd that a 30 year-old would die of a "heart attack" even at that elevation. Either he's got a familial disorder predisposing him to early coronary artery disease or he had something else like a pulmonary embolism that caused a cardiac arrest. Either way... a big bummer. jstone Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 when I was there, a guy died of a heart attack on the summit, like 5 feet from the cross. He was 45, and apparently in top shape. Altitude, its a bitch. Quote
Off_White Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 I was glad to hear last night that my friend was on his way home from there, safe and sound. Sad about the fatalities though. Have I ever mentioned that I like it that the Cascades are low elevation? Quote
Gary_Yngve Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Altitude may have had nothing to do with it. Consider Jason Collier: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/nba/hawks/2005-11-01-collier-autopsy_x.htm Quote
