Sharkfin Col

Is a single 60 meter rope long enough to make the rappel from Sharkfin Col to the Boston Glacier? Beckey indicates it requires two ropes (heading to the N. Ridge of Forbidden).

Did the rap early Aug 1999 with one 60m rope. It was plenty. I'll bet a 50m would have sufficed that year.

There was a detailed discussion of alternative routes over this col sometime last summer -- run a search and you will probably find it. I have been over the col without rappelling at all -- in September when, if anything, rapelling would be expected to be more necessary than at other times o the year -- though there was some sketchy down-climbing.
