I am a Mazamas member from Portland and I was hiking with friends on 13 Aug (last Saturday) up to Mt Ellinore. At the summit I set my pack down on unstable ground and the pack tumbled down about 75 feet below the west side of the summit and came to rest on a ledge that appears to drop off to the great void. We had no ropes (too dangerous without them) or climbing skills to retrieve it, so I went home to Portland without it cry.gif.

I am wondering if anyone might be planning a trip to Mt Ellinore soon, who would be able to retrieve it. I am offering a nice reward. There's no money or credit cards in it, just my newish pack, hiking gear, cell phone, and prescription glasses -- altogether a big $$ loss. It's an orange/black Kelty daypack. For ID purposes, there's a yellow ExOfficio shirt inside.

Lindy, I was up there yesterday with my son. We saw your note and I had planned to attempt to get your pack for you, but looking down from the summit we could not see it anywhere. Perhaps a goat knocked it down over the edge. There only seemed to be a couple small parties before us, and none of them had an orange pack. Unless yours it an old external frame circa 1963, which one guy was carrying down as we were going up.

Sorry I couldn't deliver better news.

Thanks for trying. It was a 2004 Kelty, no frame, large daypack. It came to rest on the ledge with most of the orange side facing downward with the black side (shoulder straps) up, but you could still see the orange part somewhat. Your news doesn't sound good, but if it was in the shade, as it was when it went down, it's hard to see. I hope others will also be kind enough to take a look when they're up there, and let me know if you see it.

Thank you.
