Christopher Posted February 21, 2002 Posted February 21, 2002 Good Morning All- Does anyone have recent route condition info on Goat Mtn? Is it a snow shoe climb or will ropes be required? Also...any good suggestion where to camp? As the weather is looking good this weekend!!! Thanks in advance. Quote
vegetablebelay Posted February 21, 2002 Posted February 21, 2002 Topozone.com shows 9 Goat Mountains in Washington, have you picked one of them out? Quote
Christopher Posted February 21, 2002 Author Posted February 21, 2002 I was refering to the one near Mt Baker. I will be more specific in the future. Quote
plexus Posted February 24, 2002 Posted February 24, 2002 No need for camping if you get an early start. Don't go the way of the Goat Mountain Trail, it is way too long. Snowshoes should be fine. Start from Twin Lakes Road, cut down to Swamp Creek and head up a gully to the glacier basin in between the West and East Peaks. Head up some steep snow and then traverse to the east side for the summit. Great views in all directions. IT is definitely easy to get both peaks in one day. And if snow conditions are good, a nice glissade back down. Just be careful going up the gully as it has some avy and rockfall dangers depending on snow condition. Quote
