Trinity Alps/Castle Crags Info

The road to California finds me upon it soon, as I head to LA for a seminar.

 

On the way back, anshallah, we will be stopping in the Trinity Alps for a week of restoration and perhaps climbing.

 

Anyone have any experience in this part of the west? Any info would be most appreciated. We'll be getting a guide-book of course, but any first-hand accounts would be great to hear.

(Confusingly enough, there is a town called "Shasta" just west of Redding. The town near Mt. Shasta is called, well, "Mt. Shasta"

 

Some nice scrambling / peakbagging / backpacking in the Trinity Alps, but careful of deer season (I think archery season is going to start soon). The DFG would have more info on that.

i don't know of any climbing guide for the alps, but there is definitely a pamphlet for cc. There are some SWEET and LONG traverses to be had in the alps for the adventure seeker.
