tobytortorelli Posted November 18, 2001 Posted November 18, 2001 Took the opportunity to access Skyline Divide on Saturday. Roads open to the trailhead. Excellent base on all aspects covered with a well bonded layer of pow. Took three runs of high speed GS tele turns. Had a perfect day under the sun....Base was well consolidated and re-frozen, with bonded pow on top. There was an interesting creep-slump fracture on a loaded portion of the first bowl, which occured during the rains. Light to Moderate winds blew up the bowls forming sastrugi along the rims....peace. T. Quote
Lambone Posted November 18, 2001 Posted November 18, 2001 Pardon me toby, but what is a creep-slump fracture? I've never heard that term before... Sounds like fun, glad you got some good turns in! Quote
tobytortorelli Posted November 18, 2001 Author Posted November 18, 2001 Lambone, it's a term i came up with yesterday! The "slide" naturally point released about a foot and a half deep and maybe 30 yds. wide, where it ran all but 20ft., slumped into itself and stopped, creating ribs in the snow and a nice crack above the slide mass and below the fracture line....looking more like a glide crack as a result! Lambone Posted November 18, 2001 Posted November 18, 2001 hmmmmm....weird. You ever consider writting you own book on avalanches? I'd buy it Quote
