Fairweather Posted August 16, 2001 Posted August 16, 2001 Anyone done Ptarmigan Traverse? Can it be done late season by a fast party in 3 days? Looks like it can by the book and map but some firsthand info would be especially helpful. Thanks. Quote
mikeadam Posted August 17, 2001 Posted August 17, 2001 Call Scott Schell at ProSki in North bend. He just came off the full traverse including Dome Peak yesterday. The number can be found at http://proguiding.com Or I'll edit this message and put it here for you. (425) 888-6397 He'll be in at 10am tomorrow. be sure to tell him I mentioned this to you so his chest will puff up to full swell If anyone is interested in conditions of the North Ridge of Baker Martin guided it yesterday. You can maybe reach him there as well. Slesse looks nice from where I'm at Mike [This message has been edited by mikeadam (edited 08-16-2001).] Quote
Juneriver Posted August 17, 2001 Posted August 17, 2001 I did the traverse last August. It definitely can be done fairly late in the season. The biggest issues would be possible crevasse negotiation (although none of the glaciers on the route are too broken) and moat/bergschrund difficulties. I think that it can be done in a long 3 days w/o climbing any peaks. I have considered doing it in 4 days incl. climbing Dome and I'm just not all that fast. I've heard that when the entire route is snowed in it's been done in some incredible time on skis (less than 24 hours???). If you want any direct info, feel free to e-mail. Quote
