evankanga Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Hey all, partner and i got to schurmann around 5pm and set up camp. snow on the way up was slushy. no snowshoes required. lots of space at schurmann. we awoke at 7ish and saw the mountain was OUT. clear skies all above 6K feet, clouds below. Top looked windy, but we decided to make a bid. snow going up was easy to climb, and boot track. previous days tracks were covered, but some wands were still in place. no crevass apparent danger. we made our route straight up the emmons, and had some ice, but mostly very cramponnable hard snow. some areas of knee deep light snow. at 12,500 we decided to turn back as the lenticular cloud was kicking super strong winds up...and was making quite an air show. descent was superb, and and the day on the mountain fantastic. descent from schurmann was very slushy, and there were bus slides down the whole inter gloacier taking many minutes off the descent. snow level is above glacier basin. have fun. Kraken Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 why'd you start your summit climb at 7 and not earlier? Quote
