To add to that, anyone know about ice climbing in the alps in winter and winter alpiine routes that are moderate? I plan on going there this coming winter. Anybody know of good guidebooks for Alps alpine routes and ice routes? Possibly in English?

I heard from some Cham guides in Alaska last year that late October-early November can be great for autumn mixed routes...'best time of year' for some stuff they said.

i asked someone i know and he basically said the same thing ... except also that things have melted out and may not be climbable anymore. he couldn't really give me much more information than that, though.

I'm not going to the Alps, I'm going to Holland. But I'm wondering whether its worth to bring gear and try to get a week or two in climbing somwhere. I would probably go to Chamonix for lack of any better knowledge of where to go for fall alpine ice climbing.
