foraker Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 don't quite know if anyone is interested in this or what but i saw this job posted on one of the job boards i keep an eye on. it's a local company that does seafloor surveys and they need a network admin. you'd have to be willing to spend 2 months a year at sea (sometimes internationally). thought someone here might be interested. FUGRO SEAFLOOR SURVEYS, INC. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are recruiting for the following position: NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Good Hardware and Software troubleshooting skills Familiarity with simple maintenance and packing needs of standard computer equipment Background in installation and support aspects of Windows 2000 (desktop and server) Familiarity with mechanics of sharing network resources with desktops Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook Background in rolling out software upgrades to a diverse user base Ability to effectively resolve technical issues using remote resources (phone, email, and web) Ability and willingness to explain and document technical issues with other IT team members and end users Classroom or workplace experience with using one of the following: CAD, GIS, Digital Cartography, or Remote Sensing software. Background in a mixed Windows/Unix network server environment Preferred: Helpdesk background with ordinary Windows desktop tasks (Office apps, printing, email) Background with support aspects of Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Familiarity with remote VPN user support Ability to automate system and network administration tasks in Windows and Unix environments Background in using Perl language for automation tasks Enthusiasm for Wiki Web PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Willingness to spend 2 months a year at sea, often internationally; Reliable, flexible, and creative thought; Ability to safely lift 80 lbs to tabletop height; Good organizational and multitasking skills - must deal well with interruptions; Good written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work well with IT team. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in a technical field. EXPERIENCE: Two years paid IT work experience and an appreciation for detail, organization, and personal flexibility. Sea-going experience preferred.
