RTurk Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Has anyone done this route recently this year? How are the conditions on the mountain? I'm flying in from New England the third week of May for some action. Do you think it's would be madness to try this route that late? I've already been on MtHood before. This route has been on my list for a while now. I've heard not so good things about the snow conditions this year out there though. Thanks for your input. Quote
Alex Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 I have only done the route once (in April) but the recent snows we've gotten should help things out some. I don't think its madness to try Sandy Headwall in May. This route regularly gets climbed into the summer. Quote
Ducknut Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 I did it last June. Check the TR index. Recent snows may help it. I certainly wouldn't want to be there right now. Its hard to predict the conditions for late May, but as long as there haven't been recent snows it should be fine. Quote
Couloir Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 I would say this route will be in its prime after all this snowfall, several days of a melt-freeze cycle and then a good cold day. I was writing it off this year, but I'm motivated now for many routes on Hood. Quote
