lancegranite Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Have any of you crafty devils out there ever made a 2 person sleeping system? I was given a sewing machine, and this seems like a good project. Quote

lancegranite Posted February 8, 2005 Author Posted February 8, 2005 (edited) The wedge shaped design zips into your sleeping bag, zipping out drafts (but not smells) Edited February 8, 2005 by lancegranite Quote
Gary_Yngve Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Oh, you're sorta thinking like the bag becomes a quilt, and the piece you make becomes the bottom half to seal everything in? Quote
lancegranite Posted February 8, 2005 Author Posted February 8, 2005 There was an article about this is one of the climbing magazines. Sounds like a way to really cut down on the bulk and allow Mrs. G and me to snuggle on cold nights. Ray Jardine is all about quilts, going so far as to name a design after himself... Rayway Quote
specialed Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 We did SW Ridge of Hunter with 3 dudes 1 small Bibler tent and two sleeping bags. It was ok for the night we spent on the climb, but when we got stormed in on the way back to basecamp for three days it really sucked. Quote
hydroman Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I make a fair amount of gear and whipped up a simple two person quilt as one of my earlier projects for a PCT thru-hike. I thought it worked pretty well down to temps around freezing or a tad below. It takes some practice to use with two people though. It was a basic Jardine style quilt but better contoured in the area around the head/neck. That’s the key area to making the thing work in cold temps. Using just an unzipped one person bag isn’t nearly as warm because it’s difficult to seal out drafts. My next one will be with down. Shoot me a PM if you want more info or some pics. Quote
