gyselinck Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 I am a newbie and got a few ice screws and did my first lead today. Maybe am paranoid about my $52.50, but my screws rusted on the inside on the drive home. Is it no big problem? What happens if your on a long climb for a couple of days? Quote
Alex Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 those few ice screws you got...were brand new? usually it takes years for modern screws to loose their polish and start rusting even a little bit what brand? rusted screws are much more difficult to place in general Quote
gyselinck Posted January 14, 2005 Author Posted January 14, 2005 They are just small rust spots inside. Black Diamond Turbo Express screws. Brand new, first time used. Quote
sean_beanntan Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 ...usually it takes years to rust...big negative on that one. i have had new screws rust and new crampons rust first time if they dont get dry soon...use Wd40 as the man says Quote
Janez_Ales Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 Screws, tools, and crampons can rust on a long drive home even if new... The way to avoid that is to leave them in the canopy, so they do not melt out and when you come home hang them ..., if you drive something else than a pick-up then they will warm up and will have to get air = dry them out. A small bag with screws - opened bag fits quite well somewhere near front passenger seat. Tools and crampons normally get enough air... Happy and safe climbing Quote
