hoppity Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 Hey there, imma new guy on the board and it looks like a great resource. i hope i've posted the following question in the correct section. i'm thinking of heading to mt. athelstan, upper lillooet river, b.c. this weekend and was wondering if anyone knows if water is available at the athelstan bivey area. i haven't been before and McLane's Alpine Select suggests getting water could be an issue at this time of year. thanks in advance for any feedback. Dru Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 I would tell you to ABSOLUTELY not get on Lillarete this late in the year. The traverse around the Gnomon is real sketchy without snow cover. Go in june, not September. Also getting down the descent gully might be very icy. There may or may not be water around. I wouldn't bet on it. The ground is all pumice and is very rapidly drained. Best bet is to look near the base of the couloir between stoltmann buttress and fantastic wall. you may have to chip and melt ice. Quote
hoppity Posted September 2, 2004 Author Posted September 2, 2004 cheers Dru, thanks for the feedback! Quote
