Chitownclimber Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 I am going to the cascades for a three week backpacking trip in cascades antional park. I am an avid boyulderer and I'm wondering whether it would be worth my while to bring my pad, shoes, etc. anyone have any insights? Quote
Robc Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 There's hardly any decent bouldering in the north cascades that I know about other than high on the peaks themselves. There might be some in the enchantments area. Quote
cracked Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 I hear the summit plateau of Baker has fantastic bouldering. Quote
ashw_justin Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Yeah, there are some 3000-foot highballs, so you should bring your neon pink crashpad, if you have one. Quote
cracked Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Remember, the crashpad should be crampon-proof, too. I think Berghaus is making a special Huber-bro Crampon-Proof High-Altitude Pad . Designed specifically for alpine bouldering. Quote
Chitownclimber Posted July 2, 2004 Author Posted July 2, 2004 Why Crampon proof? I don't see myself bouldering with crampons in theb immediate future. Quote
Chitownclimber Posted July 2, 2004 Author Posted July 2, 2004 There aren't even a few stray boulders around the park? Im going to be backpacking in there for a few weeks, and there are few mountainous places where ive gone backpacking that lack boulders. Quote
Distel32 Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 there are plenty of boulders pretty much everywhere. If you want to carry your pad for 3 weeks go for it. Quote
Farrgo Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I've seen plenty off and climbed on a bunch of boulders up in the alpine. Unless you have a specific area your going to which you know has some good bouldering, I wouldn't bother with your pad. Although, I've seen some pretty small pads that are about half the size of a normal crash pad which might be worth it if you don't mind the baggage. One area in particular that I though had some promise for bouldering was Glacier Basin? below East Wilman's Spire, above Monte Cristo. Quote
