DPS Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Has anbody climbed the Park or Boulder Glacier Headwall routes on Mt Baker? What is your opinion? Enjoyable? How is the approach? Thanks. Quote
ashw_justin Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 YOu'll want to talk to Cracked or Skykilo about those. I've been wanting to do the Park + ski descent for a while. The approach for that is from Artist Point (Mt. Baker Ski Area) so you start pretty high up but have to traverse several miles. Quote
cracked Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 I skied the B-P Cleaver to Boulder HW in April. We didn't climb the Park HW because we didn't want to ski it. The approach is casual, an hour's hike through flat forest, then you go up until you hit the ridge coming down off the cleaver. The cleaver is spectacular, very pretty side of the mountain. At the top of the cleaver, the HW is dead ahead, either climb that, or contour climber's left towards the crater, then up the final bit of the Boulder to the summit. Take skis, the cleaver is fantastic. Watch out for cracks at the top of the cleaver, they were opening up when we were there. Here is my TR. here is Skykilo's TR when he did the HW. Quote
cracked Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Oh, the Park Glacier proper is also fun, we got to 9k or so last August before getting boxed in by crevasses. The approach hike is a bitch coming out. TR on my site. The Boulder would be cool, but the B-P Cleaver is a more obvious line, IMHO, and it avoids the crevasse danger up to 9k. Quote
