matt_m Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 So - I'm planning on trying to replace some old, sketchy anchors this summer and want to do it right. Where might I find that nice, ridiculously beefy chain that's on anchors at index like STP and Davis Holland? You know - the stuff that's like 1/2in plus and could hold a frigate. Very wear resistant. Put that stuff on some nice Fixe SS and you've got anchors that'll be good for quite some time. Quote
Dru Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 its best to buy your chain, link (lap link or quicklink) and hangers from the same source (say Fixe) because if you have differing grades of metal in contact, even stainless steel, you can get galvanic corrosion going on. i have seen SS chains rust where they touched a non-stainless lap link. the fixe complete station deals are pretty good, you get chains, connections, hangers and bolts all in one piece. its a bit more spendy than hardware store chain and lap links though. lancegranite Posted May 30, 2004 Posted May 30, 2004 This sounds stupid, but make sure to cut the chain in 5,7 or 9 link pieces. That way, when you add the quicklink, the chain faces the right way for the ropes to be threaded. Quote
