fooman Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 Considering giving Shuksan a go on skis this weekend if the weather cooperates. Anybody know how much skinning on the road will be possible? Also I'm thinking early in the year is good as most crevasses will be well covered and skinning should be fairly pain-free. Any word to the contrary? Many thanks. FooMan Quote
ashw_justin Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 Well here's the road report: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mbs/conditions/road_conditions_report.shtml#mbrd_road_cond Says "unknown" for Shannon Creek Road (1152/014), so 0 to 6 extra miles to the trailhead depending on your vehicle... I'd be interested in checking it out. I'm a splitboarder... Are you going to day-trip it or camp? Quote
fooman Posted March 23, 2004 Author Posted March 23, 2004 Hrmm. I'll try giving the rangers a call tomorrow and see if they have any more useful information. Probably planning on doing it as an overnighter just for kicks. Either this weekend, or possibly next. Quote
PONCHO&LEFTY Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 I was tooling around up there this weekend (Baker Lake). I didn't go up the particular road in question, but I would estimate that I drove to at least about 2000' on roads nearby. Quote
genepires Posted March 28, 2004 Posted March 28, 2004 was up there all this week. One could drive to within about 1/4 mile of the trail head. The trail is mostly all snow covered to the clear cut. You will have ot remove the skiis about a dozen times for bare spots though. Obviously above the clear cut is all deep snow waiting for your skiis. We got about 4 feet of good light snow there last week. There is a nice snowshoe/sled track that should be good for skiers. We didn't make it up to the saddle though (lots of wind loading during the week) so you are looking at lots of trail breaking to get to the glacier. We were up to our knees with snowshoes on. yum-yum. Quote
