Not exactly a "yard sale" item but...

A friend has a 4-yr-old male weimaraner that he can't keep. The dog is very friendly, good with kids, doesn't have much to do with other dogs, nuts about chasing tennis balls, etc, likes the outdoors, but he has way more energy than my friend has time to spend with him. (Friend broke his hip in a parachute accident a few years back and can't run or even hike much.)

He and his son are pretty sad about having to give up the dog, but since the dog is alone in a small back yard most of the day, he doesn't have much alternative. (He chews up stuff if left alone indoors.)

The dog (his name is Max) is very good natured, but not particularly bright. His ideal home, I think, would be with a family with a couple of high-school cross country runners.

(Before you beat up on him for getting a dog he couldn't manage, his wife insisted on getting the dog, then changed her mind; dog went to live with my friends' mom, who can't manage him anymore, friend is now divorced.)

Anyone know someone who might be able to provide a good home for him?

holly is right, I have gotten all my dogs through purebred rescue. The people are all great, and super helpful, and in it for the dogs, no to make person who can't keep them feel like heels.

purebred dog rescue is great. both of my dogs were rescue dogs. they do have pretty rigid standards for who can adopt but you know the dog will go to a good home. one of my rescue dogs is weim grin.gif he's a pretty dumb but good natured dog too.

tell your friend not to feel too badly. there are far worse reasons for getting rid of a dog than recognizing you're not the one to give it the kind of home he needs. we got our weim b/c he was the wrong color and a breeder was going to put him to sleep. mad.gif

Thanks for your responses. I knew about Purebred Dog Rescue, and told Tom about it. He met the guy who runs the local Weimeraner rescue org a couple of days ago.

It's too bad because he's a really sweet, friendly dog, he just needs way more exercise and attention than Tom can give him.
