Dru Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 Went to Vegas for a week. Climbed 3 days. Fun routes. Got snowed on one of the 3 days. There is full on water ice back in the canyons like at the base of Rainbow Wall is about a 4 pitch WI2 where the normal approach goes. Went to a hot spring in Arizona 1 day. Fun canyoneering hike and bouldering too. Went to the thrift stores one day. I got some silver polyester disco pants for $5 Maybe they used to be Roy's? I dont see any tiger bites Drove down thru the northern Nevada desert scoped out some cool granite in Big Smoky Valley. Any body know details? Didn't find the "Skinwalker Ranch" yet but there are a couple of candidates. On the way home the stuffed penguin nearly visited the Kitty Kat Ranch Quote
Alpinfox Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 Which routes did you climb? Did you pick up any hitchhikers? Quote
Dru Posted January 28, 2004 Author Posted January 28, 2004 We climbed a crack, a face and a chimney. They were all real easy routes - not apologizing or justifying, but for one partner it was first time climbing in a year (and about 3rd time in last 5 yrs), and for other partner first time since August. So it was best to stick to real moderate stuff. No crowds was good. Geronimo on Monday. This is big jugs the whole way. First 2 pitches of Johnny Vegas on Tuesday. Real good face. Then blizzard started at 2nd belay so we rapped off. Hot springs and desert bighorns on Wednesday. Canyon bouldering. Healy's Haunted House on Thurs. This was very good. 5 pitches with 3 of chimney! Lots of back off slings on first two pitches where there are some run out back and foot sections One section took almost an hour to figure out which was best way to climb it - back and foot, back and knee, stemming with a foot and hand on each wall, or which way to face... Alpinfox Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 Nice! I bet you got some sweet pictures with red rocks/white snow? Speaking of sheep. Do you know if those "mountain sheep" you see in the Fraser Valley are the same thing as "Big Horn Sheep"? Or maybe "Dall Sheep"? Sounds like a great trip. Quote
