wrench Posted November 7, 2003 Posted November 7, 2003 My girlfriend and I are thinking of heading into the freezing-ass cold region of the Enchantments this weekend -- it originally started as a backpacking trip to cure our need for exercise after a month of cragging on the weekends (and b/c the Enchantments are neat). But now we're thinking of throwing in the walk-up on Dragontail. Does anyone have any beta on conditions there? Any info on the conditions of the roads, trails, passes, glacier, col, route, sanity, etc. would be muy fantastico! btw, i got the beta on lady bugs from teleross's post so don't worry about that one. Alasdair Posted November 7, 2003 Posted November 7, 2003 The boulder field at the end of Colchuck lake is covered in about 8 inches of snow making it very difficult and slow going. The road to Stuart Lake trail head is clear, and the trail to colchuck has anywhere from 2-4 inches of snow. Asgard pass looks like a total nightmare. I would recomend you go the snow lakes route. ken4ord Posted November 10, 2003 Posted November 10, 2003 I was there this last weekend, it is really not that hard of going. Yes the rocks are covered with snow so it is slower going that in the summer. We hike up in sneakers to the lake, but I would bring boots for going any further. We didn't go all the way up because we were looking for climbing not hiking. Colchuck Glacier would be fine, obviously with crampons and ice axe, could see a lot of blue on it. Quote
wrench Posted November 11, 2003 Author Posted November 11, 2003 thanks for the info. in the end, we opted for a day at vantage and then a dayhike to colchuck lake. here's the lake sunday, with the base of dragontail in the bg and aasgard pass on the left Quote
