Dru Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 this sounds sort of like seti@home i am certain both j_b and fairweather, jim and mtngoat will be anxious to run this model in order to help with our understanding of global climate change. http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99994159 Quote
catbirdseat Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 Basically what they are saying is they want to determine how sensitive the model is to initial conditions. There are uncertainties in the parameters they input. If a small change has a large effect on the prediction, then the "error bars" will be very large. It's like the alalogy that has a butterfly flapping its wings in Japan can cause a hurricane ten years later in the Atlantic. Quote
