E-rock Posted September 12, 2003 Posted September 12, 2003 Did you guys get a lot of rain up north? Do you anticipate a lift on the fire ban? (I believe it was originally scheduled to last till 9/14, correct?). Are the fires in the Columbias going out? Quote
snoboy Posted September 12, 2003 Posted September 12, 2003 Read the "bc is closed" thread. It is sunny today. Squamish Froest District is fully open again. other areass of the province still have some closures. Don't know about the fires in the Columbias, sorry. Quote
Gary_Yngve Posted September 12, 2003 Posted September 12, 2003 Not sure where the Columbias are, but this webpage is nice: http://wlapwww.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/recreation/campfire_bans.htm#campfire_bans Quote
Mer Posted September 12, 2003 Posted September 12, 2003 I'm in the interior of the province we had some rain over the past two days, so it will have made the fire situation better, but things are still dry and still burning. Helicopters with buckets are still flying overhead. The ban is lifted in the Columbia region (Revelstoke) but not the Okanagan/Shuswap. But damn, it's been two weeks without access to the crags or the trails. I'm going to break down and stealth into the local rock this weekend.--you can't obey all the rules all the time and forbidden rock is so tempting Quote
Dru Posted September 12, 2003 Posted September 12, 2003 or you could drive the 5 hours to squamish.... i heard the $fines$ if you get caught breaking the ban are pretty spendy Quote
Mer Posted September 12, 2003 Posted September 12, 2003 But, my stealthy plan is to leave the car and mountain bike in. I'll wear moss-coloured clothing and just do some silent, solo top-roping. I won't smoke, drill or trundle anything--actually this doesn't sound like much fun at all. Maybe I'll just drive to Begbie Quote
Dru Posted September 12, 2003 Posted September 12, 2003 hey why not go climbing at skaha with a couple cans of white gas and some roman candles why should kelowna have all the fun (isnt begbie still closed too?) Quote
Mer Posted September 12, 2003 Posted September 12, 2003 The updated restrictions show revelstoke as outside the ban--it's just as wet and cool here, so the restriction is a bit arbitrary. I do respect climbing closures, but this just seems like a line on a map and well, umm, I really want to climb. Quote
salbrecher Posted September 13, 2003 Posted September 13, 2003 I was reading in the Kamloops newspaper the other day that out of the hundredish people that were caught only one was fined and the rest were given warnings. We were planning on sneaking into the begbi bluffs area last weekend but the parks people were patrolling like mad. We saw about 4 parks vehicles in 2 hrs. Quote
