wayne Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 A big fire has closed this access to Mt Maude etc. It had us wondering wether we should be messin around climbing. We were almost trapped in the area when it tried to jump our return road to Lake Wennatchee. They kept it from doin that but sent a helicopter in the base camp to tell folks to scram! Quote

Kyle_Flick Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 I soloed up the north face of Mt. Maude Sat. morning and saw the fire increase in intensity and start making its way toward Phelps Creek from the drainage to the SW. I was tempted to stay high on the Carne Mt. high route on the return to the car, but opted for the faster descent to Leroy Creek. By the time I was driving out they closed the road. Talk about the nick of time. Quote
