EricS Posted August 26, 2003 Posted August 26, 2003 A little jaunt up Si yesterday revealed a silver object glimmering on the haystack … thinking "it couldn't be!!" .. Yup! A closer investigation revealed someone had placed a single bolt and the kicker is it's about 2" from a nice ~ 1" crack above a ledge!! Uh, what the hell is that about?!!! I'm certainly not opposed to boltin', but I draw the line on "bolt" protecting (trad'able) cracks??!!! Anyone have more scoop on bolting of the Haystack? If there are plans for establishing new routes, I'm sure they'll be uber classics … nice single pitch climbs, w/ a lovely 4 mi approach. Or maybe the boltin is for winter when the haystack gets all Scottish- like! Yeah, alpine style and bolts! Quote
