guinness_is_yummy Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 Two friends and I did the east buttress on South Early a couple days ago. We got a late start, took our sweet time climbing and finding the route, and lo and behold, the sun set while we remained there on the mountain. Josh had led the second bolt ladder through the next pitch to the "sandy ledge". Shane ascended the rope, cleaned the pitch, and fixed my rope. I stood there on my little ledge, in the dark and cold of night, and, as I wallowed in self pity, tied my prussik slings and unclipped from the anchor only to swing out away from the anchor with the only thing separating my sorry butt from the ground 600+ feet below was air. I finally reached the ledge, where we curled up for a cold and sleepless night on a bed of granite, rope and gatorade bottles. We had one sweater, a space blanket, and a bandana between the three of us to keep toasty warm. I am proud to say that no spooning occured during the night (although there was some discussion which was quickly shot down). We woke up the next morning to the most beautiful view I have ever seen as the sun rose over the north cascades. Are we bumblies? Perhaps. But we are proud bumblies. Quote
