colchuck-balanced rock descent beta

Checked out the guide on colchuck balanced rock - it looks like the descent just walks to the plateau above asgard pass and then down the pass. Or did I read it wrong and we'll have to descend steep slopes all the way to the lake?

Either way, anyone have info on whether the conditions up there?

thanks,

matt

This is from Colchuck Lake in mid-April. You can see how the gullies would be in winter/early spring. Don't know about what they would be like snow-free, but it does seem like you could get down one of them if you really wanted to--especially if you already had gear with you with which to rappel. Here is the image: Colchuck BR from Lake

Oh yea, you don't want to go all the way to Asgard to descend. You can see the descent route in the picture, and it's not as steep as it looks. It's just sort of 45-degree scree when there's no snow; not bad at all. It brings you right around to near the base of the route on the immediate skier's left of the face. You can leave crap (water, clothes, booze, HCL.gif) just before you get on the climb & pick it up on your way back down.

Matt -

Looking over to the general area of CBR from the top of Prusik it looked like there was still a fair amount of snow in the area. I know there was still a fair amount of snow around Prusik. Good thing is it was all soft last weekend.
