Atlanta_Climber Posted April 21, 2003 Posted April 21, 2003 Anyone know which guide companies to consider (or not consider) for a guided climb up Island and Mera Peaks in Nepal? Would you use MountainMadness over International Mountain Guides, etc. and why? (thinking about a 2004 trip) Thanks! Quote
chelle Posted April 21, 2003 Posted April 21, 2003 I believe both companies have good reputations. I've taken trips with MM when I was learning to climb and thought they did a great job. Quote
Rodchester Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 I've been on two international trips with Mountain Madness and thought they were great...some will say I'm a shill for MM. The onwers are friends of mine. But hey, I think they run a great trip with great guides, and I'll use them again. www.mountainmadness.com One of the owners is from Atlanta too... My 2 cents. Quote
MysticNacho Posted April 23, 2003 Posted April 23, 2003 Just stay away from the guiding companies that you find in Thamel in Kathmandu. Sure, they're cheap, but they just might screw up and FALL OF ICE CLIFFS and DITCH YOU. Better yet, stay away from Equator Expeditions!! Did'ja hear that everyone?! EQUATOR EXPEDITIONS. Don't use 'em! Just so everyone knows who they are, here's their website: This company sucks. Snazzy site, eh? Looks professional, eh? Don't be fooled! In all reality, just go by yourself without a company. Neither Island or Mera Peaks are hard, and it certainly isn't difficult to fend for yourself in that part of the world. Just hire a couple of yaks to carry your food and gear if you have a lot and you're set. You need a permit too ($300?), and I can't remember what the rules are for liason officers. Quote
