  1. It was a SPOT.

Sounds like the climber fell early on the route and that they were carrying overnight gear to carry over to climb Prussik next.

I assume Noah will tell us more at some point.

  2. For anyone who was ever rescued, lost and then found, etc. in the North Cascades you probably owe Tony your life. Tony is an amazing pilot and I felt lucky to have worked with him during my tenure at N. Cascades NP. Tony knows the park like the back of his hand and would always go above and beyond. I'm glad he is ok.

  3. Hey everybody.

I just got a plea from my good friend Lincoln Else who has been the climbing ranger at Yosemite for a number of years. Lincoln is volunteering with the Khumbu Climbing School one of the projects of the Alex Lowe organization. The KCS helps train Nepalis to safely work in the mountaineering field. Lincoln is looking for folks to make donations to make this possible. If you can help click Donate .

Thanks for your help and generosity

  4. Hey y'all-

I'm the proud "Adopter" of 2 miles of Highway 2 near Nason Creek and Coles Corner. My Spring Clean Up is April 23rd and I would love to see some cc.com folks come help. We had a good time in October and it felt good to spruce up the place.

Send me a PM for more info.

    Thanks-

  5. which peak on mt kenya?

my brother and I did the trekking peak (class 2/3 at altitude). A good time was had by all. Porters aren't required like on Kili, but I say it's the way to go. Have a great time, I really enjoyed E. Africa and would love to go back to do multiple routes on mt. kenya (especially the ice routes if they ever come in again.)

  6. I guess it's time for you to convince the Republican Congress to increase funding for National Parks so they can have adequate staffing. I would assume opening prior to 9am means having at least another shift of 2 rangers in addition to the road crews.

I guess one reason I left the NPS was this assumption by the public that the Feds are always trying to screw the public, just cause they can.

  7. You wanna hear about things that suck..

Last year we went in with 4 of us crammed in my little Nissan, folks in the little kid seats wanted to puke when we arrived. When we were packing up to hike to THOS Mr. Yates realized he had left his crampons at the hotel. DOH!

So he started walking out and actually made it some distance down the highway where we picked him up that evening..

    YATES is one tough fella...
