  1. From the era of bomber American made outdoor gear- before all our favorite small outdoor companies got bought by Chinese conglomerates. I have a vintage Dana Design Alpine pack. The pack is a rare special "Overkill" edition that was done with double strong fabric, is black in color and has side zippers for easier access into the main compartment. If you are familiar with Dana's design back when they were still owned and made in Bozeman, "overkill" truly is overkill considering the fact that people are still using their regular edition packs 20 to 30 years later with no problems: no blown seams, no ripped off harnesses or belts, and no holes abraded through with the first glissade. In short, completely unlike the pack you have now. The pack is heavy, because it was made in the era where gear was really meant to last, and backpacks needed to handle 60 to 80 pounds or more comfortably. The pack is in great condition. No holes, no abrasions no rips. This thing is truly a collectors item now, so I'm asking $200. Prefer local pick up (I'm in Ballard.)
  2. I love my Speed 40 for week long trips in the Enchantments. It climbs so well with the swing arms. This is also a plus on steep trails/ginormous talus scrambles. Recently I tried one of my old backpacks again w fixed suspension and the "backpackers spaz lumbering of death" (where the backpack tilts strongly from side to side each time one of your hips sway with walking) reminded me again why suspension play is good for on trail, too.
