  1. The Washington Alpine Club is now taking applications for its 2014 Basic Climbing Class through Friday, Jan. 31. Know of anyone who is interested in a fun yet comprehensive introduction to mountaineering? Please have them apply! This 13-week class covers backcountry skills, rock climbing, snow/glacier travel, and culminates in a climb of Mt Baker. More information about the application process and the class can be found at http://wacclass.org
  2. Just wanted to let folks know that applications for the 2013 class will open December 15th, and close January 31st. The Washington Alpine Club's Basic Climbing Class offers a basic but comprehensive introduction to the technical mountaineering skills required to travel safely over snowfields, glaciers, and high-angle rock. The class size is small to preserve a high instructor to student ratio. Students in the course are exposed to the full range of climbing skills, first in a classroom setting, and then in the mountains. The 2013 class will run from March 19th through June 16th. Detailed information about the class and application instructions are available at http://wacclass.org.
  3. I love the Cilogear packs. They are hands down, the best carrying packs I've ever had on my back. That said if you're looking to save some cash I have two of the above mentioned packs for sale. Osprey Variant 52 climbing pack. Lightly used pack is in great condition with no rips or tears. $100.00 Link: http://www.rei.com/product/772421/osprey-variant-52-pack Mammut Trion Guide 45 pack. Like new condition. $90.00. Link: http://www.rei.com/product/798293/mammut-trion-guide-45-pack
  4. I have a few days off this week and I'm thinking of a winter climb of St. Helens. The plan would be to depart the Seattle area Friday or Saturday morning and park at the Marble Mount sno park. Hike in and camp somewhere above the tree line. That would make for a shorter summit day and time to get back to the car the following day. Of course this is dependent on weather and avalanche conditions. Anyone interested?
