  1. I have a thread about climbing at Salmon Slab and Frenche's dome in zig zag next saturday, 6/4. nobody's hit me up yet. Just got back from Smith. Why dont you come out and check it out?
  2. Saturday night is what he said on another post, Im attending + 1 first smith timer.
  3. Ian! Sounds amazing, I will be there with kim, a friend of mine (It will be her second time outside, so this would be great). Ive been climbing/ mountaineering/ alpine for about 6 years now (Im 22) So I wish I had some of that good old gear to bring. I love everything about about the oldschool days of climbing, and Ive read many books on the roots. It would be great to meet a bunch of climbers as your selves. Any Idea if Grasslands is going to be full? I have not camped at any other location, any tips?
  4. Im going for sure!!!
  5. Its looking to be a break on saturday & sunday,Im going for Smith. The weather rewards the bold. plus there are lots of routes that stay dry at smith, but hoping to go up to Koala rock. I heard myths of snow......
  6. yep, both in ZIG ZAG, Salmon is just a fun warm up with beautiful scenery, Frenches was once a 700 foot lava dome vent of Hood, but is now just an interesting formation offering cool climbing
  7. I might be in for sure, I need something to pound my pickets and only have the Raven with adze
  8. Ill be up in the are for my cousins graduation. I climbed at Salmon slab and Frenches last monday and it was muy bueno. had really patchy rain t storms followed by Blue bird skies. Salmon is always a bit wet and slick, but Frenches was only wet on North side and the first pitch of the multi pitch. the difference is that its NOT slick. I have the gear and have no probalem taking the sharp end and guide belaying. any takers?
  9. The week of the 6th would be best for me, later in the week though, Finals and all....
  10. I'd also be in, I have climbed the South route, and am familiar. Boarding down was very nice. we strapped in after we glaicaded down the south summit. strapped in at lunch counter. there is only 1 spot to have to pack over. took 3 days to approach, 1/2 getting out.
  11. I'd be in to climb with you when you're out. Im local ~35 miles from T-Line lodge
  12. I would give it a good safety inspection, just like I do every time I go out.
  13. 5'8" 150 athletic Yeah, I'm pretty fit. I'm an avid mountainbiker, and spend the summers packing paint in ridiculous terrain for the forest service timber crews
  14. What great reports! I was hoping to go for a push this Saturday/ Sunday morning (A.M.),,,,,,,...... but it looks like were about to get a bunch of precip
  15. Sent you and email, I'm in
  16. Me: I was an Indoor Rock instructor for 2 years, covering I II and TA'd High angle rescue. I learned all basics from a Timberline Mountain Guide. very capable of understanding complicated rope systems, and rope management. Summited Mt.Adams South route through devils kitchen and up the south summit. Been on Hood 3 Times, never summited, or made it past hog's back due to one inversion, partner injury, and falling rock. Very good with Map Navigation and compass Work. I'm 22 and go to OSU now. The "Gym Climber) attitude and mentality are killing me. I was looking all over down there for a partner, but nobody even knows what things like Munter hitch, Prussiks, Anchor building, etc. are. Very frustrating, I love to be out in the hills. I would be interested in finding a long term climbing partner, all my old ones had kids and quit or moved. I want to start looking into more technical climbing like Ice and mixed in the long run.
  17. for sure, Ive been on south 3 times but never made it past hog's back due to one inversion, partner injury, and falling rock.
  18. Already have 1 partner who's in. I have a map, gear, etc. Push out ~11:30 from T-Line. Anyone interested? Tyler
  19. Ya, lets make it happen, my email is roth.tb@gmail.com I have a pigeon mountain static rope and one of the long MSR coyote snow pickets
  20. Im located out of Corvallis, but Im always visiting family up in Sandy. I have all my own gear and feel comfortable on the hill, but havent bagged many summits yet, just Adams, and another in Alaska. Ive attempted Hood several times, only to turn around for safety reasons
  21. Hey, I'm interested in climbing Hood over spring break aswell. I will be in Sandy all week and could go up any time, I would be open to drive, I have a jeep and a pass. I have been up to the top of hogs back several times, but never topped out. there was gnarly inversions both times with popping ice.
  22. Thanks! Ya im looking forward to learning this forum and the members! I will post there aswell but please mention this trip to anyone you know who may be of interest
  23. Hi, Im Tyler and this is my first post on here. I am a NW climber of rock and mountains but this is a post about a trip im trying to organize asap. I know this isnt exactly a backpacking forum so I hope that I dont offend anyone by misplacing this. "copied from my protland craigslist ad" Hey my spring break is fast approaching and I'm planning on backpacking 33 miles around Crater Lake. My spring break dates are 18-28 of this month and this will most likely be a 5-6 day trip incluting one day travel total. I have exhausted my resources of back packing friends and I would really like to be out there with someone for safety reasons, company, and gear distribution. dont get me wrong, I will go out by myself but Id rather be in a group. This will be a WINTER CAMPING TRIP (ON SNOW SHOES WHOLE TIME MOST LIKELY) I have extensive backpacking, winter camping, and mountaineering experience. I have all of my own gear and may have doubles of things if you would need some stuff. I have a Black Diamond Oasis 3 tent that I'm planning on bringing, MSR whisper lite stove with winter base, jetboil, all the necessities, GPS with topographic data of the region, maps, the whole shebang!! I would realy like to find someone who has experience in the snow and can take care of themselfs on trips. I am also a Wilderness First Responder and an EMT-B so you should feel safe with me. Im 21 and in college full time and need a good extensive trip to clear my head of the stress of school. I have never been to Crater Lake so I am very excited. I have been watching snow and weather forcasts aswell as Avalanche reports. I am also Avalanche 1 certified. It would be nice if you knew basics of reading slopes and snow conditions. Its a huge bonus if you have dug snow pits and examined snow grains. I'm looking to have an intense hike but lay back and enjoy mayself at camp at night (*Flask of whiskey to warm the soul maybe) Please get back to me asap, we will need to get permits which shouldnt be too hard and Im flexible to any dates (plan on 6 days) between 18th and 28th of march!! Call Tyler If interested or email and lets make this happen!!!
