  1. Trip: Elkhorn Range, Anthony Lakes - Lees Peak

    Date: 3/13/2014

    Trip Report:

I got to the Anthony Lakes parking lot at 6pm and had just enough daylight to skin to the top of the ski hill to catch the sunset and scope a fresh ski track into the back country. This was my first time to the area and I was stoked. I figured I would wake up early and go for something moderate due to the fact I was solo.

The sunset was awesome and the moon was bright. I couldn't wait to start skiing in the morning. I figured I would get an alpine start to catch the sunrise from up high. I started up around 3:30 but the clouds had already started to gather. By 6am it was snowing and blowing. The summit of Lees Peak was nice but I didn't stick around. The snow varied like crazy from wild weather the previous week.

Oh yeah, the snow mobile accident is all settled, I got a sweet new set up and a little extra dough to cover trip costs. Lesson learned, when someone runs you over take pictures of the scene.

  2. So in the end the insurance company reimbursed me for my skis, skins, bindings, trip cost, and a little extra....I could have gone to the doctor and really milked the situation but I am not that kind of person. In the end it sucked that is happened but now I am getting a brand new rad set up!!! Can't wait to get out on my new skis! The pictures I took after the accident made it a black and white on who was at fault. If you ever find yourself in this type of situation, take pictures.

  3. sounds perfect - you coming to the party? wanna go out friday evenign before and help string it all up? christ, how much does 420 feet of muck-encrusted cord weigh? :)

is it a cosmic coincide that 420 feet is damn-near exact the distance from the summit to the swiss ledges? :rawk:

When and where? It's a beast of a rope!! Happy to help hang it if I can..

  4. I have a 420 foot static rope that I used for caving years ago...It feels like steel cable at this point with all the mud and crud deep in its core but it'll hold!!! I am down with hanging it off the top if we need more rope...

  5. I was planning on skiing Paulina Peak on Saturday and started hiking at 5am. I stayed in the woods or the side of the road as much as possible knowing that the snowmobiles would be zooming by at some point. Around 6:30 I hear the first ones and as I look over my right shoulder I see the thing coming right for me. I jump left as I was on the far left of the road and BAM he hits me in the back doing 30+ mph. My pack and helmet saved my ass. Both bindings exploded and my phone and other items damaged. I am sore as hell but over all we are both lucky to walk away. I am pretty sure he had tinted goggles making his visibility crap. He is lucky my whippet or ski didn't cut his head off. Stay safe out there. You never know when something or someone is going to smash you! I did get one lap in the day before and it was glorious!!!

    Date: 12/30/2013

    Trip Report:

Pearly Gates are a fun way to spend Monday morning. I enjoyed them so much I opted to descend back down them. I didn't see another climber on the mountain until I was headed down from the hogs back. Great day on the hill. Now lets hope it snows!!!
