  1. I think its under a large larch about 40' from the lake and 50-60' north of the outlet creek. It was the only dry spot yesterday. There is a nicely packed trail all the way up Hatchery Creek to the lake (and up to Badlands and north slopes of Big Jim if you want more wallowing) and the larches are beautiful right now. I encourage you all to go there now! You will be rewarded!
  2. Lost a silver bracelet (not really silver) at the lower index parking lot. Somewhere between GNS and the parking lot. Its one solid piece with a clasp.
  3. I was a part of that cluster just after you guys. Luckily we were next on the route, as there were enough people that others decided to change objectives. Here is a picture of Tom and Daniel on NEWS.
  4. Yeah its pretty similar. Longer/brushier approach (more blueberries) and bike ride but same great rock. The scrambling route is longer as it is 400' taller, but I thought the scrambling was slightly easier. We brought ropes to try to climb the final 400' via the ridge direct that goes at 5.something but we abandoned that idea when we heard thunder and just did the easier scramble quickly.
  5. I was part of a group of 4 (2 cars) there, but we did the west ridge of South Twin. Luckily we came in the south end (in Feb. we did NTS and had to come in the north side because the other bridge was out).
  6. I attempted it last weekend on the 8th and had a blast in the rain and wind. We weren't able to do the summit block with brutal winds and rain, but I did try to find a way around the blowdown on the way down the mountain. I followed some other foot prints in the snow for a while but then headed due west after I thought they were going too far north. Once I got back below the clouds and could see something I realized that I was north of the Pt. 5794 near hwy 138 along what must have been Porcupine Creek. I then headed southwest to get closer to the trailhead and promptly found myself in a lot of blowdown again before coming out onto the road a quarter mile north of the trailhead. So the moral of my story is that if you wanted to hike a mile down the road you might be able to avoid the blow down to the north, but I think you might have better luck going along the Camp Creek to the south (just speculation). Congrats on making it David, I hope to get back sometime on a day like you had. Here are my pictures (with two good ones of blow downs): http://picasaweb.google.com/cdweiland/SoOregonDay4MtThielsenAndDriveHome
