The more expensive pulleys generally have ball bearings to give them smoother movement and a longer life. The Petzl Mini Pulley has sealed bearings within it which is why it costs more.

visine is supposed to "get the red out" But on a more serious note, I'm not sure how to decrease the red bleed, but I wouldn't rinse them in water if they're leather because they may stretch or shrink or do other undesirable things.

I'm looking to get my first trad rack this spring/summer. I already have a set of nuts and hexes. I'll probably add a few tri-cams and double the mid-sized nuts. But I'm really curious about cams. What are the essential sizes for a beginners rack? How many do I need? Should I double the mid sizes or just get one of every size. I'm guessing that for starters I'll leave out cams under 2"--the nuts and hexes will cover that. I'm also guessing that the biggest sizes aren't initially crucial. Also, what brands do people like?

Check out the Exped down mats that OR is marketing in the US (they are european). For warmth you can't beat it and they weigh about as much as a thick thermarest.

Neither the trango S evo or the glaciers are insulated and won't be anywhere near as warm as koflachs. Look at the trango extreme for warmth although it has the same last. The Lowa Mountain Expert would be a good one too.
