Interested... if convenient. what part of Seattle are you in? NE?

Has anyone been up the north side of Mt Redoubt recently? Headed that way in a couple of weeks and looking for some firsthand feedback. If not this year, then reports on late-summers past would probably work as well. Thanks in advance!

I am a bit new to this side of climbing (as opposed to glacier) and was looking to buy a guide to Frenchman Coulee. What I found was that the "official" guide for FC was currently out of print, but that another printing was slated for February of this year. If it has been released, I have not been able to locate it. Anyone else out there know where it can be found or an anticipated publication date if it is not out there yet? I appreciate the help.

That's the main difference, of course - Technicolor. It also seems to have lost some weight over the years

After climbing Rainier last July, a friend sent me pictures his grandfather took on a climb there in 1928. Interesting to see the difference in Tahoma in just 80 years.

Thanks Chad, That WAS very helpful. The Charmoz are super light and really comfortable, but I don't want to buy another pair of boots next year, or the year after. Plus, with the Triolet, if I get lost in the snow, I can throw my feet up in the air and someone is sure to see the bright orange glow on snow. Thanks again!

How do these compare with the lighter, more Trango-like Scarpa Charmoz? Has anyone used both? I am debating between the two. Fit is about the same but wonder if the extra beef is worth it or if it takes its toll on long approaches. Currently not doing anything too technical, but would like to get there.

A note from the weekend shopping... Although not the cheapest for other gear, nor a large amount of boots stocked and available at the store, Feathered Friends is definitely the place to go to get some really good input from guys that area out there actually doing it. Also, apparently its climbing boot season, because wherever I checked was out of the boots / sizes to compare side by side. So with a bit of mix and match, I had to order a few and will do my comparison at home next weekend (I hope the wife doesn't see the visa bill this week). Thanks to all for your input. I think between the Trangos, the Chomoz or the Asolo Expert, I am sure to find a good boot. BTW - Not that it is a huge deal at this price range, but REI online has the LS Trangos $20 cheaper than anywhere else right now.

Cheam... how are they on a glacier? Still waterproof after extended wear? I just ask b/c I was told that after a while they don't hold water out so well... but that was just by one person, so, I woudl be initerested in hearing your take as well. I'll take a look at the Asolos and try Feathered friends too. Thanks All!

Thanks for the suggestions. Max, those Scarpas are nice boots. The Charmoz fit well, but couldn't find the Triolet. They said that with more leather, they would say truly waterproof longer than the Charmoz. I think I'll try to get the Triolet online... unless anyone is aware of anyplace in Seattle that carries them (didn't see them at REI or pro mountain)

Up until this point, I have been using a two boot system. Light hikers for the approach and plastics once I get to the white stuff. Or on something like rainier, just wearing the plastics the whole time. I am looking to simplify and pare down on weight by switching to using a single, soft sided boot that will allow a little easier time on the approach, but be stiff and warm enough to climb three seasons. I would appreciate any feedback on what you like - or don't like about boots you used, have used or could recommend. Thanks in advance.

Some friends and I are training for some local volcano climbs this summer and are looking for good training hikes along the I-90 corridor. Ideal would be good, quick elevation, but that can be done in a half a day or so. We have done Si, Mailbox, Teneriffe, McClellan Butte, Granite Mtn and Muir among other, lesser hikes. We could go back and double up on some of these, but would like to vary it up. Any suggestions?
