  1. I'd say if you're just beginning and you don't know anyone who can take you out, don't let that stop you. Try Chicks with Picks in Colorado, or Yamnuska in Alberta. Also, buy a few books and read up. I liked Will Gadd's book - can't remember the name of it right now, though.

  2. Plaidman - sorry to hear about your stuff. That's brutal.

And for those of you who don't know, don't leave anything in your car near PRG in Portland. I've had more than one friend get his stuff stolen there; even right from the parking lot of PRG. Apparently, there is a methadone clinic nearby that attracts unsavory types.

  3. My fingers have been sore for a few weeks - especially around the joints. I'm aware that this is from climbing crimpy routes, but I've moved into harder routes and want to keep climbing them if possible. In addition to taping my fingers when I climb, is there anything else I can do to prevent injuring them further (aside from stopping climbing or climbing just juggy routes)? Any info would be appreciated.

  4. Can you clip the screw on lid with a caribiner and how much does it hold (swinging around clipped to harness etc.)?

What is up with those cleaning tablets? The shops want 8 bucks for 20 of them.

Why would you want to clip a cylinder of gasoline to your harness anyway? Or is it nitroglycerine you're carrying? This sounds like Vertical Limit.

    Got the Dex?

  5. Try Dr. Jeff Robinson at the Portland Sports & Injury Center. (Phone # 503-517-8700) He's done wonders with various injuries for me, including badly torn ligments, shoulder impact injuries, and lower back pain. He works a lot with pro athletes and knows his business. I can't recommend him highly enough.

  6. I understand "still traumatized." A couple of years ago, coming back from Ouray, I crumpled up my Arcteryx hard shell under my seat, and forgot to take it with me when I got off the plane in Seattle. When I reached Portland and got out on the tarmac, I realized I had left it on the plane. I called Delta and asked them to keep it safe for me and they refused to help. (AAAAAGH!!) I still wince every time I see one of those jackets. I still avoid flying Delta, too.

  7. Sigh. Over the Memorial Day weekend, I lost my favorite pair of Native glasses going into Mt. Jefferson on the Pamelia Lake trail. I had them on top of my hat. At one point, I removed my hat to put my hair up, and they must've flown off. Better to keep them on a leash next time.

  8. I tore the ligaments (sprained) my ankle pretty badly coming out of The Enchantments in August and it's still really stiff and painful. I agree that tape (and good boots with ankle support) help and can get you out there, but I also suggest good, solid help from a sports injury specialist if you want to avoid chronic tightness and pain. Ankle "specialists" blew me off, too. Once I got my cast off, they said I was cured, but I still have a lot of tightness and pain. Try Jeff Robinson. He's awesome. His number is 503-593-7640. He's a Pac 10 ref, works with the Kings in Sacramento, etc. and really cares about getting you back into action.
