  1. Waterproof gloves do not remain so. For the same price as one pair of spendy do it all gloves you can get 3 to 5 pairs of cheap gloves and rotate them so you always have a warm dry pair to put on. and then when you wear some holes in a pair (and you will) it's only $40-50 for a new pair instead of $150

That's what I've been doin, and may continue... just hoping there was something out there I was missing. Alot of the patrollers up at baker are using these:

Might give them a try for skiing.

  2. I realize this may be a bit like the search for the lost city of gold, but I'm in the market for a new pair of gloves for skiing and climbing. I'm thinking a waterproof shell with removable liners would make the most sense (like BD guide gloves?) Those may be overkill, and rumor has it, not all that waterproof?

I do want: waterproof (duh!), long gauntlet, and some color other than black, so I don't lose 'em in the bottom of the sleeping bag in the middle of the night.

Ideas? Should I just stick to carrying two redundant pairs of insulated gloves rather than trying to have one pair of shells with two liners?

  3. The two middle lower orange ones are Lost Arrows. The top ones aren't, and not to be selfish, but to be honest I'd hate to see those soft euro spades not end up used for climbing as I still need to replace a couple of those out at Beacon.

Sounds like El Jefe has more what I'm looking for, so go for it Joseph. I'm staying out of the hard vs. soft pin argument; you and bill can sort that out!

  4. Are you all set, or still needing pitons?

Still looking (El Jefe sounds like he's got some, but still working on it.) I'm really looking for lost arrow style, so I'd take those off your hands (I'm not sure if I've got all my piton terminology dialed, but I'm looking at the 6 on the right in the top pic, and the two in the middle in the bottom pic.)

PM me if you're willing to break 'em up and ship them.

    Thanks, Ian

  5. Two things for sale:

OR chaos parka: synthetic Primaloft insulation, blue, Men's large. In great condition and lightly used (had one small tear near pocket zipper; repaired by OR) I just need to thin the herd, so selling a couple jackets. $100+ shipping

REI Down Bag: 0* down bag, used, but still in good shape. (probably about 10 years old, but not used a whole lot.) $50 + shipping.

I'm in Bellingham if you want to see in person or pick up.

  6. I'm looking for approx 35 pitons (prefer lost arrows, not angles.) Old, rusty, retired is great... not for climbing, this is for an art project. Let me know what you've got; I assuming i'll have to collect these from a few places, so even if you've got just a few lying around, let me know.

    Thanks

  7. Does anyone make a cordless angle grinder?

You can pop many locks with application of a simple crowbar and/or Z-angle pin stack. Makes getting locked in or out a non-issue unless you get caught in the act.

Actually, not to harsh yer lock-poppin' buzz G, but most of those gates are locked with not one, not two, but 4 or 5 locks, and moreover are encased in these little fortified enclosures that Norman Schwartzkopf would have trouble penetrating.

What he said about not busting locks... It's not going to help the situation in the long run. A slight tangent, but those multi-lock gates, in my experience, will open by unlocking ONE of the locks; there are multiple locks there for multiple users. That way if one user changes locks, not every user group has to change locks.

  8. Ooops... Jacket is size medium, dark blue. It is a few years old, and the material is "generic gore-tex laminate" as described by Feathered Friends when I bought it. Just want to make clear that this jacket has been well used, but is still totally functional.

  9. It's time to move again and it's time to thin the herd a bit. So, I've got a few lightly used pieces of gear for sale. I'm located in Bellingham, WA and will happily ship stuff.

BD Camalot C4 #5 Nearly new condition. Bought brand new this spring, placed it once and never fallen on. It's the current generation, and been stored properly in my cool, dry gear closet. $70 + $5 shipping.

Smartwool Microweight Crew Women's medium. Light green, have two of these. These are brand new, in the package, long sleeve shirts. $25 each + $4 shipping.

Western Mountaineering Apache Super MF 15* Bag: Used this bag twice this winter. Nearly new condition, just thinning the herd. It's hard to tell it's not new, and it's always been stored hanging in my closet. Regular (6') length. Description $325 + $8 shipping.

Integral Designs eVent Micro Bivy. SOLD

    Jetboil PCS: SOLD

Feathered Friends Osprey Sleeping Bag: SOLD

    Feathered Friends Frontpoint Jacket: SOLD

REI 5* down sleeping bag: I bought this in '95 from REI for about $200. It hasn't been used all that much, as I got a lighter bag pretty much as soon as I got more into climbing, so it's in pretty good shape. Regular length. It weighs 3lb, 8oz. Probably 650 down? I'd take $70 OBO. $10 shipping.

Mammut Mirage Harness (women's medium.) Barely used, before realizing it didn't fit right. Description

The link shows this year's model, and it looks like they don't make this in a women's any more, but the design is very similar. This is last year's model (bought last fall, and stored in the closet except for a couple trips to the gym, and maybe one day on rock.) $35 + $5 shipping.

  10. It does not have a real haul loop which is weird to me but it hasn't caused trouble yet.

What do y'all use a haul loop for? Trailing a second rope? I always climb on doubles when there's two followers, so maybe that's why I've never cared about a haul loop? Seems like you could always tie a piece of cord back there instead.
