  1. Along JayB's line of thinking....wouldn't testosterone be used to bulk up? And even then an athelet would use it over a long period of time and not simply inject it to get a sudden boost for the next day. I could see someone transfusing rbcs to get a boost because I would assume the positive effects would be almost instantaneous. Why in the world would he be doing steroids (testosterone) in the middle of the Tour? It will be interesting to see if his previous tests show an increased level or if this is the only time it showed up (fishy). I am sure they took samples from him earlier. I have heard that they sometimes test the Tour riders 3 days in row.

  2. "I posted it on this site both as a humorous story (I think it is) but also so that others might not make the same mistake."

Uh...don't think you have to worry about that. I don't know if there is another person in Seattle that wouldn't have anticipated attracting attention doing this. At least no one that is smart enough to be alive after climbing as long as you have.

  3. Damn JayB.....you're making a lot of sense today (could be that your posts just look good next to that idiot ZimZam). I have a hard time sleeping at night knowing that there are nuts like ZimZam wasting space on this planet.

  4. I don't think that we want to encourage people to rope up before crossing the ledge. This will only increase the the cluster f* factor. I prefer taking the lowest ledge across and the higher ledge coming back. I really wouldn't want to look up as I'm crossing and see somebody on the high route roped up. Can't imagine a better way of clearing the ledge than having some noob attached to a rope weaving his way through the crowd.

  5. WA positives:

-Shockingly less people in the mtns than in CO, lots of people have boats here which keep them down low in good weather which leads to another positive...

    -Water

-Much more stable snow pack, less avy danger.

    -North Cascades, alpine rock

-Seemingly infinite glacier slog routes if it is your thing

    CO positives:

-More rock routes than all the other states combined, sans CA.

    -Better/more lift skiing

-You are rarely very far from a crag

-No highway 2 traffic (IMHO much slower/more frustrating than the I-70 mess)

    -Weather

-Living in CO I thought bush whacking was a bikini wax.

  6. Give up driving uh? I've tried to cut back. But how many of you are willing to cut back on travel? Not many I'd bet. I've flown about 30K in the last 12 months all for recreation or to see family. So much for helping the planet by not driving to the grocery store and taking the bike to the park and ride. I don't claim to know the stats on airline fuel being burned at 35,000 feet but I'm guessing that our demand for overnight packages, the ability to live anywhere and still see family occasionally, travel to other countries to climb or just for kicks is doing a significant amount of damage. More than our autos? Who knows?

  7. "La Sportiva MPE outsole for excellent traction in all mountaineering conditions"

What a joke that statement is. I love my Lhotses but I'll love them a lot more once I get them resoled with Vibram. That MPE stuff is almost dangerous if you are used to vibram's soft and sticky rubber. I am sure that MPE last longer because it is so hard but who wants to give up the traction for longer sole life? Good boots, and resoles aren't that expensive when you consider the benefit.

  8. "I think the biggest problem in Iraq is that a lot of the Iraqis don't like or trust us b/c we came into their country acting like imperialist assholes in pursuit of our own interests".

I think the biggest problem is that those people hate each other. The only reason that place didn't fall apart years ago is because Saddam had his boot on their throats.
