  1. Hello! Just got back from Adams via the south side... The trail is mostly snow free to the lunch counter. There's a few little patches to the counter. I'd highly recommend taking crampons since the snow is pretty icy right now (though, you can do the climb without crampons if you start late and the weather is warm, as a few members of the group I was with did). Almost all the campsites at the lunch counter are on rock, only a few have patchy snow from last week. We did encounter running water so we just filtered that and used it. There is a few places you can melt snow too, but I'd look around for running water. The glissade path is pretty icy but still there. I'd be careful as several of the chutes end on rock -- keep your speed down and you'll be fine. It was hardpacked ice/snow in the morning, so use crampons if you have them. I used leather boots, but I did see some people using plastic boots. 25-90-23 should be fine. We actually took I-5 to 14 to 141 to try something different. We stopped by Logs resturant at BZ Corner on the way out -- its definitely worth it, especially if you catch the live entertainment Good luck and have fun!
  2. Okay, how much? Most of the trip? I recall glissading most of the way from the south summit to lunch counter a few years back. We did encounter a few rocks, but nothing bad. I just want to know if it is more melted out than usual at this time of the year........
  3. Well, duh. I've done enough carry-outs at Rainier to know that. I'm more curious if I'd be sliding over rocks and other fun things on the glassade. Sounds like its not the greatest. Thanks! Scott
  4. Hey all: Planning on a trip up the south side of Adams August 21-22... I'm just curious if anyone has been up there recently and what I should expect for glassading down. I've been up there before, but it was earlier in the season. I know Rainier doesn't have much snow, so I'm wondering what the south side of Adams is like. Thanks for any help! Scott
  5. Not sure if this has been added or not, but we have a map available in all the visitor centers and the climbing information center that shows the bearings and route to Camp Muir. You can d/l it here: http://www.nps.gov/mora/climb/images/mapcompass.pdf And I also agree that the hike to Muir is a great one. Just be prepared. Also, don't be like the individual I saw the other day... no sunscreen, sunglasses, water, food, boots (was wearing tennis shoes)... he was picking up each leg to continue on. *sighs* Ah, the things you see when you work here. Anyway, enjoy the hike! It's a great one and I highly recommend it.
