Hey good luck on that one Lucky.....I tried the same question on Tues. when the weather was good. Getting mid-week partners can be a bitch; and such is my weekly task. Woe is me.

My suggestion for a first time harness and shoes are the BD Momentum AL ~ $40-45, and the Mad Rock Phoenix ~$60-$70. Both perform reasonably for most types of climbing.
